ChangeMaker History ...
ChangeMaker: Society for Social and Economic Development is a
not-for profit organization. Although it primarily within the
Bangladesh domestic context, it does not limit itself only
within the political boundary of the country. ChangeMaker has
emerged as a concept and way of addressing social and economic
depravation regionally and trans-nationally from its home base
in Dhaka to strategic locations around the world and within
Bangladesh. The organization's finance comes from donations,
gifts, venture capitals from various local and international
partners and donors as well as through consultancy works of the
organizations.
The over all objectives of ChangeMaker as stated in the
organizations plan are firstly, to develop and expand
development base. As ChangeMaker is a national NGO, to become
one of the leading organizations through cutting-edge ideas,
innovation and implementation plans; secondly, to address
Bangladesh and the world poor particularly in the south;
thirdly, to support government's development priorities and
finally, to maximize resources and raise funds for human
resource development and equipment necessary to achieve the
above objectives.
ChangeMaker was founded in 1993 as a fluid organization to
promote innovative initiatives in development area. Later it
started to provide services to development change organizations
in terms of program designing, capacity building, planning,
monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment for various
implementing organizations and donors. It started to provide
more concrete operations, managerial and marketing expertise,
with training assistance aiming at building a fully
comprehensive organization within the shortest possible time.
The core staff and active resources of the organizations,
through training and experience, were gradually able to assume
full managerial responsibility and started to work more
independently with little supervision and guidance. Many of the
core members are now working in various national and
international as well as donor organizations successfully in a
senior position with higher responsibility.
On mid March 2004, ChangeMaker started to work more formally and
begin its registration process as a not-for-profit organization.
Later in February 2005, the Registrar of Joint Stock of
Companies and Firms formally recognized the organization as
ChangeMaker: Society for Social and Economic Development and
provided a legal entity under the Societies Act XXI of 1860.
ChangeMaker is in process of registering the organization under
the Non-Government Organizations’ Affairs Bureau soon.
During this period, ChangeMaker was supported by SEDF/IFC/World
Bank, Katalyst/SwissContact, CIDA, SDC and a host of other
important partners through various works to social and economic
development activities.
