Pro-Poor Economic Development through Group Enterprise

The goal of
the proposed EDGE project is to establish economic opportunities to the marginalized
people, particularly the women and minority groups through Pro-Poor Economic Development
through Group Enterprise (EDGE) initiative. The initiative will empower the rural poor,
and provide opportunities for economic self-sufficiency, and provide the needed support to
build their capacities to make full use of the economic opportunities. ChangeMaker
believes that with appropriate supports, services and opportunities, the project will
ensure a rapid and effective improvement in the quality of micro entrepreneurship in terms
of capacity and access to mainstream market.

The broader objective of the proposed
project is to provide opportunities and access to sustainable income generation to the poorest
of the poor and the marginalized section of the community. The project plans to provide
assistance in developing appropriate infrastructure, technical and financial assistance to the
marginalized community to take-up, design, implement and eventually manage relatively larger
business enterprises with improved technology to gain economy of scale and required
competitive advantage to compete in the larger market specially export.
More
specifically, the project is designed to achieve the following objectives:

To
provide equal opportunities to the less privileged rural target community so that they can
participate and be benefited from the enterprise development programs.

demonstrate formulation and operation of formal and professional business institutions and
appropriate business practices to the rural communities

To create
opportunities to access and develop understanding and benefits of market linkage, adoption
of appropriate technologies, access to financial and informational as well as other
business services to the rural SMEs to gain competitive advantage and flourish.

To create
opportunities for the rural marginalized community to effectively learn business operation
techniques, management issues, financial record keeping, marketing and distribution
functions, business negotiation techniques, banking operations, quality control
mechanisms, etc.

familiarize the rural enterprises with modern appropriate technologies for increased
productivity and gain competitive advantage and economy of scale.

To create
effective linkage with different forward and backward market actors and providers of
essential business services.
