Appeal for Relief & Rehabilitation of Cyclone Victims

DONATIONS ARE REQUESTED FOR MEDIUM & LONG-TERM REHABILITATION

Cidr Coverage Sidr left Bangladesh in ruins. The south western part of Bangladesh specially the coastal region experienced the fury of the cyclone. This includes the district of Bagerhat, Barguna, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Barisal, Jhalakathi, Madaripur, Gopalganj and Bhola along with the chars (islands) were the most affected. 1528 SqKm of the Sunderbans approx (6000 SqKm) has been destroyed, the death toll has been extreme, according to the reports received by NGOs and Social community organizations it is over 4,000, while over a thousand are missing.
Razed to the ground Standing crops ready to be harvested of about 1.6 million acres has been fully or partially destroyed which means a loss of about 1 million tons. Bangladesh Government plans to import 500 thousand tons of food and has requested the international donor communities to provide another 500 thousand tons to cover up the food shortage and avoid famine situation in coming months of March-April when food supply is the lowest.
Loss of Farm Support Emergency relief operation is still being conducted in the affected area. Government, NGOs and International bodies have participated in a concerted effort to help the victims. Even the US Marines are actively participating in the operation.
Sunderban Medium and long term rehabilitation works are being taken up to reconstruct the destroyed structures. We at ChangeMaker have responded with all our effort and are taking an active part in consolidating the requirements.  Many organization even Individuals have joined us in our effort to support the affected people.
